CHICHESTER OBSERVER (UK) 12 January 06 Simba settles in at centre
Small photo at URL below
An 8-foot boa constrictor seized by customs officers has found a permanent new home near Chichester.
The snake, called Simba, has now settled in at the Noah's Ark animal and reptile rescue centre, at Earnley Gardens, Earnley.
She was seized at a port in Guernsey, after being smuggled from France.
The find shocked the officers, who are more used to finding smuggled cigarettes and alcohol.
Centre owner Becky Beacher said Simba would be staying at the centre.
"We do not rehouse reptiles," she added. "Looking after them is very specialised, and not many centres take them."
It could take at least 18 months to get Simba to full health after a stressful incident like this one.
