I've been in the hobby for 12 years. It's been my experience that this has always been a slow time of year. It used to be that I looked forward to this time of year. I was working with colubrids and they would all be cooling. Nice break from all the feeding and cleaning. Now I only have a few colubrids and mostly balls, so I have to work all year long.
The last couple of years we've been able to cover Christmas expenses without going so far into debt that it takes us the next 6 months or longer to pay it off. Not this year. We bought a new car for our daughter. I'll be window shopping for at least the next 6 months.
