Shovel-nosed(Chionactis palarostris) snakes are small, colorful and do well as captives. I kept them in the 80's and they were fun. I kept mine in ground wallnut shells but silica course grain sand works well. Mine ate mealworms. You will have to collect them yourself. They are found on the road at night in the desert in Southern California. Borrego Desert or Victorville area are good places to find them. They come in black and white, red black and white, black and yellow, orange red and yellow, and every combination of the four colors.
