Unless you collected it yourself you will never know for sure what you have is pure or not. Also regardless of the validity behind a breeders statements on the purity of their lineage, it boils down to this. Do they know 100% of the reliability of the importer, and every step between their arrival and your animals generation. Most likely not, and unfortunately a decent portion of the people in the hobby are more monetarily driven then by the enjoyment of the hobby so fudging the facts happens more often then should be.
Of course most will say some lines are tracable, so its up to you to believe it or not.
