This snake illustrates a debate that started many years ago when the topic of Hybridization first rose as a possibility. We worried then that in crossing species of snake we might one day turn the process of identification on it's head as too many hybrids would go into the market - loosing their identities as they passed from hand to hand.



Too many snakes these days are so produced and look so much like one or the other parent that their uniqueness is lost. Hybrid is bred to hybrid producing even more blurred lines.



The snake discussed here looks like many reds I have collected in South Florida. The grey head is meaningless as I have caught dozens like that. The head pattern looks a little funky, but again I have seen wild like that.



IMO this is a typical Corn snake...But then, who knows what might have been bred into it generations ago?
