hey drastic plastic, does your boaphile cage have a recessed area that your heat tape sits in, that is what my buddy has for his six foot boaphile cage, as for removing the heat tape, you really don't need too because your boa should have a warm end and a cooler end, if you put the heat tape in the middle the snake won't be able to thermoregulate as well and it won't have much of a choice in basking areas. any way if you are or need to remove the heat tape you can re-apply it with foil tape it's pretty tacky like duct tape but its better for insulating the tape. this is what i used for placing 11 inch heat tape under my 6 foot neodesha cages as well as my melamine racks for belly heat and back heat. good luck eric
