WELCOME TO THE 2nd EDITION OF THE WEEK IN REVIEW:

THINGS TO CONSIDER:
This week started off with the why keep snakes post by pythonis. Well, the answer for most is simple…just check out the pics posted every day on this forum.

Would a National Snake Registry be beneficial or just a bad idea? Check out the Pros and Cons (one con…w/your address on file, men in full body armor may break through your doors and windows to seize your collection when your town/city change the laws.)

Snakes you sold but wished you hadnt Too many pics to post. Bottomline: Don’t sell your nice snakes!

The least horny snake in America
Well, at first I was afraid to click but I did anyway. Then after reading the first sentence: “This is the adult male Argentine that has been driving me crazy” I knew it had to be something only a boa enthusiast would understand. Furthermore, it describes something about how female Argentines like it rough…umm. Some magazines would pay good money to hear these stories like this. umm…maybe I need an adult section in the WIR.

Natural Argentine boas are amazing. Thanks for such an great pic Phil!

Jungle boas, or not jungle boas? Thanks for the informative reply Celia!

how do u tell if you have a pure hogg island boa? Bottomline: Buy from a trusted breeder.

Boa Age questions
This post raises many thoughts, including this interesting analogy from Joe:
QUOTE OF THE WEEK:“It's like saying a man will spend lots of time traveling to go find and be with women, and in most cases the woman will stay home or at one location. This greatly enhances the chance of the man getting hit by a car or attacked by a stray dog or something like that while going to meet women, and the chances of that happening to the average woman would be much lower.”

….darn….if I had only known this in college. But seriously, thanks for the input Joe...especially since no one else replied to Jeremy’s questions, which is a shame b/c it would have been interesting to hear others’ thoughts in this area.

Re-absorption of developing embryos
Good post Chris and Kelly! I don’t know about others but I was always curious about it. Thankfully when I tell others that I suspect my female re-absorbed her eggs, they know I’m talking about snakes and not my wife.

Jungle boas, or not jungle boas? Thanks for the informative reply Celia!

What is a Leticia boa? Thanks to Lee and others for their informative replies. And to think all these years I thought it was simply a line of boas produced by a woman named Leticia (j/k)

TIP OF THE WEEK:
Water Bowls: How to keep them from spilling

LONGEST THREAD OF THE WEEK:
A Challenge!
And in this corner, wearing the red tails, BCC! In the opposite corner: multiple opponents, including morphs or adult BCI. Are adult BCC more beautiful? Do they earn the title? I was surprised there weren’t more pics posted of south/central American BCI, like adult hogs. Regardless, this sure stirred up some replies (and pics) from the morph crowd. LOTS OF PICS so check it out and make your own decision. However keep in mind that there are probably tens of thousands across the country that have amazing morphs or BCI yet never post here. (me playing devils advocate) Is it too small of a sample to generalize? or should BCC be declared the winner? I truly don’t know but now I want one of everything pictured in that whole thread.LOL Thanks for stirring up some good stuff Jeff…a nice healthy debate is needed every now and then.
A KO in 2 rounds (er replies) Thanks Lee!

PHOTOS OF THE WEEK:
PLEASE NOTE: The photos in this entire post do NOT belong to me so I cannot give anyone permission to use them. I try to credit to the owners but if there is a mistake, I apologize…please correct me in your reply.
Jon, Very cool Corn Island boa pics! Nic Hog too. Can’t wait to see your Peruvian.

I don’t know what a ‘Erythristic boa’ is but I want one! I wouldn’t mind zenzinia’s awesome setup either. Too bad they don’t make those cages in the US.

Is it just me or does anyone else want one of these? Thanks koky6869

Cool Pics LauraV

"Very" anerythristic longicauda from SRX

damian5000, better hope no one over in the BP forum sees this…otherwise they’ll actually try to produce it, sell it for 40K and take the name: Ball Hypo Boa (better get the copyrights…hurry)

Very Nice SurinaneMan

Hypo Sonoran pics from Amanda…

Kitchi’s Guyana….

(just to clarify….I’m sure this is NOT her permanent cage)

David at Morgan Boas almost sold this…what was he thinking?

THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD:
Brian’s 26th Birthday! and what kind of boa he’ll get next year!

List of Morphs Thanks Chris! Many are looking forward to see what’s added to the list this upcoming year.

BREEDINGS:
CONGRATS BOB (robertmcphee)!
From salmon male and orange "pastelish" female
John’s update: 23 live 3 slugs, 7 normal/pastel, 16 hypos and a ton of aberrancies and stripes….can’t wait to see them after the first shed!

Keep us posted Matt
Full of Babies

Some new courting activity Best Wishes whitneywee

I think I see a swell Best Wishes John. Oh..and by the way, if everyone else is like me and skipped your message and scrolled right to the pics…at first glance the baby goat looks like snake food! LOL…glad he’s not....he’s cute (and probably too big for a boa anyway.)

RUMORS:
Okay, this section is for FUN. I’ll try to include new rumors (or updates about old ones) that you’ve heard through the grapevine. If it goes over well, I’ll keep it going. Feel free to include news about any reptile, not just boas. E-mail me directly if you heard something and want to share but don’t want to sound stupid or wish to remain anonymous because you’re not sure if it’s true.CLICK HERE TO EMAIL ME
Last years imported w/c hogs....just like Area 51, they do exist.

THINGS THAT SUCK:
Any of the following: an abscess, wheezing, star gazing, and anything related to a respiratory infection. hope your boas get better soon kevin

STEELERS in the Super Bowl and some SALMON PICS Debating whether or not to breed a Female sunglow to a motley male or triple het for stripe sunglow, or stripe line albino male. Why does this suck? Because it’s a problem I wish I had. If it becomes too much pressure for you, send em my way….I’ll be glad to make that stressful decision. LoL Thanks for sharing your pics Shane.

Lots of “what kind of boa is this” posts lately…with all the locality interest these days, it sucks that people are still being sold “generic boas” without any hint of where they came from, geographically that is.

Having to decide whether or not it’s worth it to spend money at the Vet to save a snake vs. putting it down. Sorry for your loss muffin_princess

And once again, MITES! Go get em mack1time

My computer freezing then crashing while halfway through the Week In Review. I lost a lot of data that I put together. Oh well. I’m switching to hi-speed as soon as possible (which should be in a few weeks).

Welcome user ‘whosnext’. Glad you decided to post after 3 years of silently browsing. Post some more pics!
New sorta

FINAL THOUGHTS:
I received a bunch of questions about the WIR last week so I’ll try to answer some here. Does it take long to do? YES!
How do I find time to do it? Here’s how: During the week I don’t have much time to browse the forum. Plus, this website is blocked at work. Therefore, I wake up VERY early Saturday morning to enjoy some alone time before the wife and baby get up and demand my attention. Don’t worry…I get up very early everyday for work anyway …sort of an internal alarm clock. So Saturday morning is my time to browse the forums. Unfortunately, I miss a lot of the controversial threads that get deleted during the week (I heard there were a lot this past week). I currently have about 100 snakes, mostly boas and as most of you know it takes a LOT of dedication to clean them. But next to spending time in my snake room, I really enjoy browsing the forums. Most of the snakes I work with are a result of pics posted by others. If you have any ideas or criticism for the WIR, I am open to it and can easily make changes. Thanks for Reading!
