I have a year and a half old bci male. He is eating three adult mice every 6-7 days and completeley digesting them in about 36-48 hours. He rarely shows a lump after eating and is about 3 feet long. Even the smallest small rats look a little big to me. I dont have a doubt that he could easily kill one and eat one, but I dont want to feed him something too large that could cause problems.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

My yearling is about 3 ft also, and he can do a 100 gram sm rat with no problem. I bet yers could too.

I try to get them over a quickly as possible. If I am feeding weanling mice I can give them rat pups. I just like switching early. Not to mention it is rare that BCI have as many problems with larger prey items as BCC. I would try a weaned rat first and see how he handles it. If that was not problem then perhaps try a small rat. Good luck with that animal....it is quite a stunner!
