Am I correct in saying that a stripe line boa is not a boa that carries the stripe gene but instead it is a boa that is from a long line of boas that just happen to have some striping and it has been bred for through many generations?

There is a recessive genetic Stripe mutation. Pete Kahl bred this to his Albinos, and created double hets. The Albinos from this bloodline are stripeline Albinos.

Stripeline Albino MUST have lineage to this bloodline, but they do not have to be striped. There are also Striped Albinos from the line, those that are homozygous genetic stripe. Also random stripes can occur, but these are not genetic.

Pete found this new line to be very productive with larger litters. So, all of the babies got labeled as stripe line. Even the ones that don't prove out as het for stripe have a "selling point" as stripe line and may be more productive then non-stripe line boas.

It may be that the stripe line just had some fresh genes infused and was less inbred? Face it, ALL albino's, Kahl and Sharp, are inbred!
