She even called the paramedics to be 'rescued'...

It would be hilarious if it weren't so pathetic...

A coworker pointed that out to me. Know what's even funnier? They don't mention that the "killer" snake is a ball python, but at the end they advocate "starting out small" when keeping snakes... and suggest a ball python. Oh boy.

the statement that a burmese python can grow UP TO 10' long!?! Was that kid in the pet store their source on all their info? I hope not for his sake.

in the pet store, they were referring to the burmese he was holding? I know next to squat about burmese morphs except normals and albinos. That snake didn't look like a burmese to me, wrang shape head and body. Not just the coloring/lack of pattern.

holding was a green patternless. I saw the the story on the noon addition of the news. The story also said burms reach a max size of 10ft. Wrong. Try 10ft in the first year if you feed them well. Anyway the whole story is nothing but bad for all of us snakekeepers!!! Thats why you have to sometimes say to yourself does this person really understand what they are getting into. Boas eventhough not as big as the burms,rocks and retics are definitely one of those animals cities will start banning if people don't start taking care of their responsibilities. It never hurts to get to know a little about a customer first to possibly prevent an event like this from happening. I personally enjoy keeping snakes more than selling and would like to be able to do so without the law getting involved.

That woman needed psycholigical attention, not medical attention! Her hysteria scared me. She was deathly afraid of a tiny ball python holding on for dear life? Was she actually afraid of being constricted to death?

Sometimes I wonder how people get such huge unreasoning fears of things that they have no experience with. On second thought I think that snake movie du jour could give people fears like that.

We sure are a crazy society!

Haven't seen the movie yet, but I've heard it's corny-funny and not horror (snakes made to attack by enraging them with pheromones or something like that). Hopefully it won't be too negative...

But as for unreasonable fears, I don't understand it, either. I do not like spiders. Don't wan't 'em crawling on me, ever. But if someone has a tarantula as a pet, I'll look at it and not freak out. They're not evil, even though they creep me out - I know my fear is irrational. My aunt, however, when she found out I had started keeping snakes, proclaimed "well, then I will never step foot in your house". Even though my snakes cages are locked in a separate room... Oy. Gotta love it.

Maybe they were doing some kind of photo shoot with the girl and the Ball python...that would be the only way I would believe it was not a staged attempt at bringing negative publicity about snakes...since that awful movie that is trying to attack the snake industry...snakes on a plane.

The young man in the store is Thad Deppen. He is bright and has learned a lot about reptiles in the few short years he has been working with them. He runs the store and does pretty well with it. He has had some impressive successes breeding reptiles already. I thought he came off pretty well for what was probably his first time being interviewed live on camera by the news media. You never know what they are going to ask you but you can bet that most of their questions will be stupid.
