What does the notation of a 0.1, 1.1, 2.1 ect. really mean? I have been wondering this for a long time.

It is a quick way to show the sex of animals...
males are listed first, then females, then unknowns..
so let's say you have a female boa, you could list it as:
0.1 boa
if you have a pair you could say
1.1 boas
sometimes you'll see this:
1.2.13 boas
the #13 means there are 13 snakes of unknown sex...
if I have a litter of babies that I have not sexed yet, I could
say I have 0.0.12 babies

So let me see if I have this right. If I had one male and two females then I could say I had 1.2? Or if I had three males and no females then I would have 3.0? Am I on the right track? Thanks for your help.
