Feeding during shed...

lilbitlizz Aug 06, 2003 08:01 PM

My girl started her shed a week ago - the eyes cleared up 3 days ago, but she still hasn't shed the rest just yet. I am planning a trip out of town within a few days and was wondering if there was any problem with feeding in the midst of a shed...I want to feed her before I leave, but I don't want to mess with her cycle if it will cause any problems... What do you think?

I would suggest feeding a smaller meal,(or,possibly two smaller prey items)than normal...it typically presents no problems ,however,if the skin begins to roll,(like a sock)it can get stuck if there's a huge lump from a large food item,(no real harm done, but,it seems to really frustrate the snake,I'm sure it's probably uncomfortable for them when it happens.)many of my animals eat at that "clearing stage" of the shed, with no probs at all.

My Dum was in the cloudy eye stage and she ate with no problem.
