hiya,
i today bought myself a baby boa constrictor and was just wondering how i could sex it? i remember reading in a book ages ago that the spurs on the snakes side has something to do with it!?

I read another method on this forum some time ago that has proven 100% accurate in my 4 boas. Hold your boa's tail just past the vent and with run your thumb along the ventral side while maintaining some pressure on the dorsal side with your index finger. What you're feeling for is the presence or lack of what feels like two little bb's. If they are present, you have a male and if not, it's female. All 4 of my boas came to me sexed (1 pair of CA's and 1 pair of Guyanas) and this method proved 100% accurate for me when they were all under 24" or so. It's alot safer than probing or popping and you can do it when they are juvies, unlike judging by spur and tail size/shape, which is only moderately reliable at best when they are much bigger.
