Boas making funny noise

redneck_honey Aug 07, 2003 05:20 PM

HI, my boa is making a funny noise. It sounds like air escaping. I was woundering if it was because I don't handle him as much as I used to. Could it be nerves? or an infection? or just him hissing?I don't hear it unless he is by my ear. 92 on the hot side and 82 on the cold side.Any help would be so nice! Thanks for looking. ~Jennie~

It could be a respiratory infection. Is it opening its mouth to breath? Your best bet is to see a vet.
Good luck.

Boas, once they acheive a little bit of size (4' ), can be heard on occaision to audibly ex-hail. If you hold your boa on your shoulder and he shifts weight the muscle contraction can cause him to involuntarilly ex-hail too. They don't have the diaphram musculature to control their breathing as well as mammals.

If you hear a popping sound (like he has a buggery nose or wind pipe) and he opens his mouth to breath now and then take him to the vet, as R.I. is likely settling in.
