I got this baby 8-12-03 and he pooped this stuff 8-13-03. It was the worst smelling boa poop I think I have ever smelled, and it was runny. The mom and dad did not have any internal parasites or anything and this boa came from a good source. Could the poop be like this from the stress of shipping? Any other ideas? Is it possible for a baby to get int. parasites without ever being in contact with them? The man I bought them from thought this was possible, but we are thinking we'll wait until next meal and poop and see what happens. If anyone has any ideas please let me know~ I will be back to check in the morning but then not til evening, but I will be back...just so no one thinks I will not reply or read.

Your new baby could have gotten parasites from the mice he ate. That happens sometimes. I just got a new boa in the other day and she produced a runny poo as well after she arrived - so it may be stress from shipping. However, a quick vet visit never hurt anyone.

That looks like it is somewhat undigested. I have seen similar poo before and it was bad news. Quarantine! A trip to the vet may be needed w/a poo sample. With boa that I saw that had similar poo, a necropsy (she died a couple of weeks later) showed Entamoeba Invadens (sp). Good luck.

Do you know what the last meal was? Sometimes with f/t pinks or fuzzies, the poop can be runny and thin like that. The really bad smell is what concerns me though. It COULD be a sign of something else going on. Either way, I would suggest a fecal just to make sure. Good luck!

thank you all, he is quarantined and so is his sister. If anyone comes up with any other ideas or experiences, please post. This is $1000 worth of DH snow boas and I am quite worried.
I knew I never should have named them ir anything before they got here and I checked them out!
hopefully everything will be ok...
I am not sure what the last meal was because they haven't eaten since they got here, but I will ask him (the breeder, not the boa I wont be able to get in touch with him until after he gets home from daytona in a few days.

a daily soak might not be a bad idea. Little ones can dehydrate quickly. Good luck.

Are you sure that is poop? From the pics it looks to me like it might be regurgitation. Many times snakes will pass a small amount of defecation with a regurge. There definitely is a distinct smell between bad poop and regurge. Regurge has a more of a sour smell and smells nothing like poop. If that was the case just leave the animal be and dont feed for at least two weeks, at which time resume feeding with small meals. You can also try to flagyl and panacur as a precautionary measure, but check with your vet first. Any snake can regurge for a number of reasons which are too many to list. That doesnt mean you have a bad snake. It could possibly be that it was fed too close too shipping. You might want ot find out when it ate last as to when it was shipped.
