Please give me your opinion:

My 8 year old male boa "started biting" 48 hours ago. I have had him since he was a baby and he has never done anything like this. He is normally very deliberate, even at feeding (which, incidentally, I take him out of his aquarium to feed him). The others day I stuck my hand in his home to change the newspaper and he bit me. This morning, my wife was walking by his aquarium and he struck at the glass. This afternoon, it happened again. This is unlike him and it started very suddenly.

Three possible explanations I can think of:

1. The humidity recently has been very high -- maybe somehow that's causing him to be more aggressive. Although he is in a room with air conditioning.

2. He's hungry? Although I just fed him, so this shouldn't be a reason.

3. Could it have something to do with the female snake in the same cage being gravid? They were breeding about 10 days ago. I've heard of female snakes getting aggressive when they're gravid -- but male snakes?

Any thoughts?

What are his temps? I ask because I have seen some snakes get very cranky when they are too hot. I was wondering if the A/C was causing his heat (especially if he has a UTH on a thermostat) to come on higher to compensate. Just thoughts.

Thanks for your response. Actually, because where I am it has been so hot and humid naturally, I turned off the heat for fear that he would become overheated.

So, if anything, maybe he was too cold (from the A/C). But room temperature has been around 78 degrees. Maybe it was the humidity.
