so anyway.
what do you guys think of peanuts as a packing medium?
anyone esle use it?

I have used shredded paper and also crumpled newspaper.

but I was interested in trying out some packing peanuts.

any comments?

from an eco standpoint, use the cornstarch based ones... theyre biodegradable, and supprisingly ...EDIBLE! (not to tastey though).

I like the cheetos brand cornstarch peanuts. Not only do they taste better than the other cornstarch packing peanuts, but I once shipped a normal B.c.i. in them and when it arrived it miraculously turned into the most brilliant orange hypo you've ever seen.

There is a filipino pstry that is wrapped in an edible paper.

And today I found out those biodegradable ones taste just like the paper the pastry is wrapped in.

Corn starch? I thought it was soy bean?

I usually use paper and have found it works great. I have receved peanuts in packages, but I do not think they are any better. The animals seem to end up near the bottom so they do not get a real advantage from the softer material. Besides they are a lot harder to read then the news paper. Craig Kade

I started receiving more shipments packed in peanuts.
One day, I shipped 2 boxes - 1 the usual way, with newspaper (flat, folded, crumbled..) and the other using peanuts. let me tell you that the box with the peanuts cost me almost $15 less than the one with the paper!!! big difference in wieght!!! Haven't noticed any disadvantages so far...
seems great to me!

I see your point.
The heavier stuff (snake) would sink to the bottom rather easily.
But here is a possible solution.

1. Lay down a 3-4 inch layer of peanuts
2. On top of that spread 2-3 pages of newspaper right on top of the peanuts
3. Put the snake in a cloth on top of newspaper.
4. Put peanuts all around the snake and on top.
5. seal the usual way and ship.

the newspaper would act like a bigger "footprint" and distribute the snakes weight over a larger area
