I'd like some assistance in making a decision about they type of boa to pursue. Going back and forth between standard BCI, Guyanas, Peruvians and Surinames. While I know there is great variability within any given species/subspecies, I'd like opinions on trends.

* From an appearance standpoint I love the colors of the BCC's but some nice looking pink BCI's as well.
* Also have to consider that have two young grade school aged children who will participate in the care. Had a vicious retic at one point in my life and don't want the boys facing that type of personality. Must be a snake that can be regularly (but appropriately) handled.
* Health stability is the last factor. After losing our last snake, I'd like a variety that has good health tendencies. Will only buy capative born & bred so that helps.

For those of you that have experience with these types, your input would be invaluable in finalizing our choice.

to go with the guyana i have a small female and she is a great snake .she handles very well and the color is amazing.

Well, from the three points you mentioned:

> Color
> Temperment
> Hardiness

I'd still be inclined to suggest BCI's.

1.) There are some stunning color morphs out there these days, with reds and pinks that will compete with most BCC's IMHO. Where tail color is concerned however BCC's have that department covered.

2.) The BCI's I have, and have had, have traditionally been very docile snakes, particularly as they got older.

3.) IMHO, BCI's are a tad more hardy than BCC's, or at least offer a little more room for error in husbandry. Not to suggest that they can survive neglect by any means though!!!

Currently my five boas are all BCI's, so of course I'm a bit biased. I have had Surinames in the past though and they are a wonderful variant as well. Tough decision...Good luck!

I really enjoy this form of BCI. Natural hypo, shades of pinks and oranges, slightly smaller than some BCIs, and mine have a nice disposition. I have a 2 year old pair, and picked up a baby female in Daytona last weekend. I mostly keep Kenyan sand boas (normal, anery, and albinos), have a pair of Peruvian X BCI het. for albino, and some other BCI het. for albino. The Hogg Isl. boas are very special animals.
