Does this sound right? (way past due date)

AbsoluteApril Aug 25, 2003 04:14 PM

Hey guys,
some of you know my situation and have offered words of advice,
my albino female is on her 133rd day from POS and I am very
worried about her. Everything was going fine, she still
looks gravid (very fat in the rear and hasn't had any food
for 2 months) but is just going way past her due date.

I know a week or two longer than 105 days is not a big deal,
but it's been almost a month now. I spoke with my local reptile
vet and he suggests I bring her in for an x-ray to determine
if she is in fact gravid. (he states it is not harmful to the
embryos, I read in the 'reproductive husbandry of pythons and
boas' that it can be harmful but mainly in the early stages?)
This will be $115 $60 exotic exam fee, does that sound
reasonable? If she is gravid we discussed giving Oxytocin to
induce labor. An ultasound he said is over $300! ouch!
Anyways, does anyone have any advice or at least tell me if
you think I am doing the right thing? I would have to wait at
least another week before I could take her in as I don't have
the funds right now... should I just continue to be
patient and wait, how long should I wait before I take action?
I would much rather lose the babies than lose the snake and I
am so worried about her right now. Thanks for any help...
-April

well I do not have personal experience on this but I have heard of several people with snakes that went over the 135 day mark. (I am almost certain Jeff Ronne has even had this happen a few times) I would just sweat it out for another couple weeks, and after that have an exam done. Good luck with it...hope everything turns out alright.
