Hi, I bought this 'red tail' last August. He was sold to me as a columbian red tail, but as he has grown older I have my doubts. He used to be gray with brown saddles, and red on his tail, now hes lightened up to what he is in the picture. I have since bought another columbian red tail in hopes bread them some day. she looks like he used to. Should I expect teh same thing? anyway, Back to the original question, what type of boa does he look like to everyone else? I'm thinking hes either a common boa, or a Brazilian red tail? what is everyone else's ideas? Thanks. J

It could very well be a Columbian boa with red in the tail, but I don't think it's what most people refer to as a "true red tail."
In other words, it looks like a boa constrictor imperator (BCI), and not a boa constrictor constrictor (BCC).
That's my semi-educated opinion.
At any rate, it's a good looking snake!

Most of the time what people call a columbian red tail is really a BCI or what you called a "common boa." So your hunch as to what you have and what you were told you have are the same. Your other columbian will also lose its grey color and become tan/brown as it gets older, but might not look as great as the one you have pictured. By the way, I am by no means an expert.

Well, actually, from what I've read, constant 50-60% is what I want and his tank is never below 50%. Now I'm by far no expert, but even Jeff Ronne says constant 50-60% is good.. Anyone else any comments?
