Strange Dumeril behavior??

Ryan Shackleton Aug 26, 2003 12:22 AM

Just lately, my female Dum has taken to soaking almost constantly-her humidityis running about 70-80%, and heat range is 75-85, depending on where in the cage she is(if the temps stray much from this range she refuses food). She appears healthy and very alert, almost 6 feet long, no mites. She started this a couple weeks ago when she went into shed and is still doing it on and off(she shed completely and flawlessly on the 18th). Are Dumerils commonly soakers, or is this something odd?

We have seen this behaviour occasionally in one of our Dumerils as well. He is also extremely healthy, no mites, etc... We have never worried out him. I don't think that it is a problem if all the husbandry issues are in order....

I was more concerned that she just started this than anything-this snake's had quite a tough life(owner was actually murdered)next owner got tired of her and called me.I was more curious to se if this was common than anything. Hoping to post recent photos soon.
