We had a small litter this morning of Dumerils. We often have called this bloodline our Dwarf line. The 8 year old mother and father of this litter both measure around 52" and their mother (grandma) at the age of 12 only measures around 54". This female has produced 3 years in a row with 10 this year, 10 last year and 11 her first year! For being so small she has nice size litters. This year we had two unrelated litters of Dumerils, so we thought we would weigh the babies from both litters at birth to see if there is a difference in bodyweight. The second pair of Dumerils are over the 6ft mark. Babies from the first litter (larger pairing) weighed on the average (average taken by weights of all the babies and devided by number of babies in the litter) of 113.3 grams and babies from the second litter (smaller female) weighed on the average of 97.3 grams. We really do not know if this means a whole lot, not a huge difference in weights, just thought it was some cool information.

Very nice Mike & Steph. I think your size comparisons are very interesting, despite the small sample size. You should continue to monitor this over the years, to see if you actually have something. Just think if you held on to some of the offspring from both pairs and compared their litter sizes/weights over the years. Very cool.

Hey Mike, congrats on the litter! I had 4 litters this season of dumerils, two females were from the "swedish" line which is sometimes called the dwarfs(a hole other topic)....anyway, one litter was from my male who is over 12 years old and barely 4'(48" bred to anapprox. 7 year old female that is also around the 48" mark. The background info on her is way to limited to call her anything, but she dropped 5 live babies and 1 slug. What surprised me is that their babies were the largest at birth out of all 4 litters. I didn't bother to weigh them at birth, but length and girth were substantially larger which was a complete surprise given the size of the parents. My last litter of "swedish" line dumerils I bothered to weigh at birth were all around 84-86 grams each. Well, all interesting none the less, which determines size of offspring....adult size, prenatal(if that term can be used with boids) conditions, total number of ova ferilized, ???????? I, like always am holding on to a bunch of my babies so I will get to see the end result if anyone is ever interested. Well, congrats again Mike, you and Steph seem to be having one of your best seasons so far. I hope this upcoming season is even better for you two. Talk to you later.
