she bit it 3 times but didnt constrict.she will only eat live im gana try to swich her over.i thought maybe the mouse was intimidating her so i killed it for her (if she wouldent eat that i had a live rat pup she could have)so then i tried slowly moving it in front of her. she stuck her face in it opend her mouth over the mouse then just left it.then she just started hissing at it.i put the live rat pup 9in it just curled up on top of her and went to sleep.(i feed in a rubbermaid container).i had her since august 3 when i went to the sacremento show.i handle her a little each day so i dont stress her.shes not going into a shed.any advice.

IF SO, TRY LEAVING THE RAT JUST OUTSIDE OF HER HIDE BOX OVERNIGHT. IF YOU DON'T ALREADY HAVE A HIDE BOX IN HER CAGE, PLEASE GET ONE. I KNOW YOU HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FEED HER OUSTIDE OF HER CAGE IN A RUBBERMAID, BUT THIS METHOD IS NOT VERY SUCCESSFUL WITH WC ANIMALS. I HOPE THIS HELPS.

Pay close attention to your Guyana, I have had problems with Guyana's from LLL and so have others I know. Try putting a prekilled prey item in a container with the snake (dont try dangling it) just leave it in the container with the snake for an hour or so. If this does not work try doing the same thing but leave the snake with it over night, sometimes the cover of night will lower ther stress level enough to feed. If you still have problems then maybe it needs to see a vet. Not to scare you but the pair of Guyana's I bought from lll at a show soon died after purchase

Just because LLL said it was "CB" does not make it so. Your boa could have been born from WC parents and not treated for parisites. I know not only from my own experience, but from others that LLL will misrepresnt WC animals as captive-bred. Heed BCAGLE'S advice, and just fair warning, you may be dealing with more problems down the road. I would take your boa to a qualified reptile vet and have him checked out. I hope you will be as fortunate as I to have a boa from LLL that survives.

e-mail me the other day,saying that they had heard that someone bought something fromm lllreptiles and that they didn't know that I sold whatever it was.I don't.

also sometimes YOUR presence will stress them. i have a boa that just will not eat around me. she does much mike you describe.. huffs puffs, strikes, the nreleases,.. if i leave the room she will without fail eat it within 36hrs.

( i know that seems like a long time to leave a rat at 'room temperature' but this is the only ways she'll really eat. any one have any input on the 'freshness' date for rats in the cage? PK, or FT)

One of my females will only eat live also.It's kinda scary since she is 4 years old and will only eat jumbo rats.My other 2 would eat a turd if you put them in front of them.I'm starting to think guyana's are alot more sensitive to there enviroment than some other boas.I'ts just my opinion and opinions are like a$$holes...Paul.

Assuming your temps and humidity are correct, make sure you have at least two hides in the cage, one on the cool and one on the warm side. Sometimes if they're not hungry or stressed, they'll just strike like yours did. Also, get a fecal done ASAP and QUIT HANDLING YOUR BOA! I know you're only doing it a little, but until it starts feeding consistently, it's best not to handle it any more than necessary. Your best bet for now is not to offer any food for at least a week. Just let the little guy chill out for awhile with no handling and no prey items invading his new territory and see what happens. Also, Bill Cagle asked a good question with regards to when the last time your little one defecated last. It's realy important with young Bcc to wait until they've eliminated before feeding them again. They have really sensitive digestive systems and if overfed can begin a chronic and possibly fatal cycle of eating and regurging. Good luck!
