what would you say?/

ChrisErica Sep 16, 2008 02:18 PM

Holy Moly! that's what i say

ChrisErica Sep 16, 2008 02:19 PM

Sorry forgot to mention in my excitement that a coral is a pastel albino. Where did you get that little beauty?

dutch_pixie Sep 16, 2008 02:45 PM

I've bought it from a breeder in Germany, so a pastel albino and coral is the same?

bcijoe Sep 16, 2008 02:25 PM

I would say Coral Albinos and Pastel Albinos are completely different, and I would say that looks like a nice Pastel Albino.

Just my 'spare change'.

Beauty either way!

Be well, Joe

ChrisErica Sep 16, 2008 02:34 PM

What is the difference between a coral albino and a pastel albino?

dutch_pixie Sep 16, 2008 02:47 PM

well that'swhat i wanna know too!

bcijoe Sep 16, 2008 02:48 PM

there are several.. here are a few...

pastel usually reduces black, speckles, etc., which usually allows underlying color, if there is any, to show more.

pastel albinos can just look clean, or can have pinks and oranges like the one pictured, and more..

corals are different animals... look at coral hets compared to pastel hets.. usually like night and day..

a coral usually has a more intense, dark reddish color which intensifies as the animal matures.

corals usually get this in their head and face area too, which the one posted doesn't seem to have, and corals usually end up looking 'reverse' in color/pattern, in the sense that the pattern is what seems faded or non existant, and the space that was all white, outside the pattern, is intense red and looks like it is the pattern.

hope that makes sense..

dutch_pixie Sep 16, 2008 02:50 PM

yeah it does make sense, but is mine a pastel albino or a coral in your eyes?? coz i've bought it being a coral

dutch_pixie Sep 16, 2008 02:46 PM

tnx Joe, I think he's an absolute stunner too

belgiumboa Sep 16, 2008 03:09 PM

You now what i think about that animal
In my book it's a very nice pastel albino and if you sell it.
Hope you sell it to me LOL

But is the genetics working in the same way with the pastel albino's as it is with the pastel's or is there something else going on with theme?

Gr Erwin

I agree with Joe very much here. This does appear to have more Pastel Albino qualities. There is a catch, I'd say to be considered or called one or the other.
Basically to be called a Coral Albino or a Pastel Albino can or may involve "semantics" so to speak.
My point is that to be a true "Coral Albino" it must be genetically linked or a descendant of Peter Kahls Coral Line.
This is also a guide line to go by for a Pastel Albino.
Did it come from a known Pastel Bloodline of Boas"?"!
Did it come from the original Pastel Dream ,Jeff Ronne Bloodline of Boas"?"
Did it just pop out of a breeding as a standout where other Boas in the litter were also colorful to an extent or was it the only one?
Although the two types of Colorful Albino Boas Coral and Pastel are similar. As Joe pointed out they do have some subtle differences . Although we all believe the Pastel trait is Polygenic. We can't be completely sure this is true in all cases, although probably is.
Also The Coral Albino trait still might be some type of recessive condition. I don't believe its completely understood to 100% accuracy. This contributes to why these so called Corals need to be tied to the original Kahl Coral Bloodline. So they can truly be labeled Coral Albino Boas.
So back to the person who produced this Boa.Did he use a known Coral Albino or het? Not just something somebody called a coral Albino or het.
Hope my point is understood here. For instance Matt Crabbe produced beautiful colorful Albino Boas and hets. They were not Coral they were not a known Pastel Bloodline. Even though they seem to have a more Pastel quality about them . He Wisely labeled them as "Red Albinos" . So the distinction can be made. I do believe his red Albino trait to be more of A Pastel trait then a Coral trait, completely my opinion though.
I'm quite passionate about the "Pastel" and especially "Pastel Albino" subject. The pastel Dream Sunglow Boas even have a distinct appearance in my opinion. With extreme back ground or body color as compared to other varieties.
So my answer to you is to find exact back ground information by asking specific questions to whom ever produced it.Then if your still confused state the newly acquired facts on this forum. Then a better determination can be made.
That's my Book on the subject,LOL

this boa were speaking about is a coral albino...

the background is very simple..
it came out a breeding using 2 het albino boa's who have produced corals before.. I know cause 1 own 1 male of 06 from the same couple... and that is a coral also..

and i know more people who have a albino from this couple and those are corals also... so there should be no discusion about this boa.. it is and it stays a coral..

goodbye

triggerd Sep 16, 2008 09:54 PM

pic's of my coral

and a 66% possible het coral albino from the same litter

goodbye

dutch_pixie Sep 17, 2008 11:18 AM

triggerd, you wanna be right so much that you come across a little possesed by it, clearly you can see that the colour on your coral is in no way close to the colour on my coral. and like I said on the forum, for me I don't care if it was a common boa or a bastard boa. I'm really chuffed with my coral (or pastel albino) and do not give a rat's arse if it's a coral or not! so chill out dude I'm not trying to take your glory from you

dutch_pixie Sep 17, 2008 11:12 AM

Hi, He is indeed of the Peter Kahl strain. I bought it to be a coral albino peter kahl. It's not that I perse want it to be a pastel albino because that's not what I bought it for. I just got curious because someone on a dutch forum suggested that I should post that question here as he was thinking it might be a pastel albino. to be honest, I'm just totally in love with the little one coz he's gorgeous. I was also quite shocked to see that another person that responded went into me as he assumed that I was trying to tag it with a name in order to sell it and thus scamming people while the only thing I did was asking which of the 2 it was. Thanks very much for your answer so far

LarM Sep 17, 2008 01:52 PM

Personally I think this forum is here to ask questions. All different types of questions. People though are very passionate about there Boas and everything related to that. As I am very passionate about these subjects. So we sometimes can become carried away with that passion I believe. I try to control my responses so as not to offend anybody. Hopefully I'm usually successful at doing that, not offending !
I do agree that this particular Coral has many Pastel qualities.
triggerd posted a Het for Coral along with an '06 Coral. That het has more Pastel qualities then Coral in my opinion. I believe this is obviously of the Coral line(because we have the history given) but probably some really nice Pastel type Boas of known or unknown Bloodlines have been added to the mix . Resulting in much cleaner Boa/Boas showing alot more of those qualities you see in a Pastel Albino. You obviously have a very nice Coral Albino with some apparent Pastel type influence. Its all about selective breeding to reach results like that.
It won't be long that people will mix Boas of both lines (coral Line & Known Pastel Lines)together as a common practice to reach more colorful Boas and Albino Boas. Right now though true Pastel Albino Boas are still very rare. That's a good thing for me. I have several Pastel Dreams het & Pos het for Albino,LOL

tnx for your clear and understandable answer, I wish I had teh ability to control my emotions like that in answering. I tend to get carried away. I find triggerd's het absolutely beautiful, and for my coral male, I just wanted to know because someone said to me to put the question here, eventhough I have bought it being a coral and to me that's what it is. it's not like I want tosell him or sell is offspring later on as something they are not, I was just curious about it and find it a shame that there's people thatimmediately feel that i'm a fraud and trying to put a name aon it which was not even the idea behind the question.

snakeparadise Sep 17, 2008 02:26 PM

i have read the hole topic and just
want to say that, this boa is bred by us
in the clutch was alsow a coral albino paradox
the colours of the litters are sow different
I have a red male he is so red that is not normal
and a grey female with pink spots

dutch_pixie Sep 17, 2008 02:55 PM

maybe to compare them you could post a picture of the paradox and the other baby's?? I know they are all beautiful and it would make more clear why I was wondering if it was true, because there were so many totally different colours in the clutch

LarM Sep 17, 2008 03:25 PM

As April said in her above post I believe Caden was making a general point but it came across in writing as a possible personal attack at you. I don't believe this was his intention. He was making a point that people who misrepresent something don't get away with it for long.
I also know that you dutch_pixie are not trying to misrepresent a Boa but indeed trying to gain knowledge on this whole Coral VS. Pastel Albino subject.
Its a subject that needs discussing more on this and other forums. Because there are so many questions and people who can't understand the differences some being subtle in the two colorful Albino bloodlines. There are always those Boas that don't fit into the little labels and descriptions we create for them.
snakeparadise is the breeder who produced these litters of beautiful Boas I take it ?
snakeparadise you should post some more pictures of the different offspring and breeders used to develop and ad to this coral line. You are doing something very right in my opinion with selective breeding. Would love to know more about your breeders and litters. I'm glad you have joined the discussion.

thank you so much for aknowledge the fact that I indeed just seeking answers. I've already had a message from him and said my apologies as well as I did reacted a little too strong. snakeparadise is indeed the breeder and in the same litter was a paradox albino and some reversed striped animals of which I also have a female, that's 66% het for coral albino and reversed stripe

see photo's

she's in shed right now so the colours aren't that bright

LarM Sep 17, 2008 04:09 PM

That's another beautiful Boa 66% het Albino you have there Pixie ! The Coral Lines are becoming and have been refined to a great extent by certain individuals here in America. You folks Dutch_pixie and snakeparadise are from Europe correct? So I can't be as familiar with who is working with different Lines and how they develop those Lines in Europe.
Although I do know of a couple folks over here of course Peter Kahl. Other then Pete though working with the Coral Line who seem to have taken it to great levels. People like Steve Reiners has amazing Coral Boas. Another guy Stuart Lichty had been making great progress for several years with his Corals. Although I have not seen any production with this project from Stuart recently. I think a few years back he had a problem with some feeders. It may have affected his project. I hope Steve can continue to shed light on how the Coral trait works exactly. I'm certain we will see more Pastel Albino Boas and continue to have a better understanding of these lines as well.
I'd love to see More pictures of these beautiful Coral line Boas you folks have.

thanks for teh compliment onmy 66% het female! my coral and the female are both from thepeter kahl strain. And yeah I am from europe, from amsterdam holland to be precise and snakeparadise is from holland but now lives in germany (bbbrrrrr) haha but I also wanna learn so much more about teh coral and the pastel albino and wondering what beautiful traits they might have. I also have an hypo Gee Line pair and I want to pair the coral up with the female next year to produce (hopefully) sunglows. These are some picture's of my hypo female. i also keep royals and bred with them the first time this year.

snakeparadise Sep 17, 2008 05:01 PM

we will post some photo's of our other litters from this adult couple.
but first figuring out how to put more then one photo in one reply

LarM Sep 17, 2008 09:26 PM

Beautiful group of Boas you have. That last Hypo has really light eyes. How should I put this, This is what is often seen in a Boa Het for Albino(Kahl Albino Marker). That Hypo Boa in the bottom picture. Is one of your Gee Line Hypo Boas ? Is it already het Albino or DH Sunglow ? Or Will you be using it to produce DH Sunglow Boas ? Great looking Boas forsure !

yeah that's a Gee Line female, she is not het for anythong so I'll go ahead and try to get some sunglow's indeed. I've also have a male Hypo Gee Line, however he's got more black than the female.

Slithering_Serpents Sep 17, 2008 06:25 PM

I am not a guy either . . . lmao

I am not here to attack anyone or start any fights. I am sorry you felt that way. Frankly it seems obvious to me the difference, and frankly I am shocked at all the people who don't understand this. Sadly I guess we do need to discuss this.

The difference is in the genetics, not necessarily in the look as babies or yearlings. The difference will however be plain when that snake is 6 years old, by it's kind of 'inside out' look, where the background becomes darker red than the saddles. You'll also know the difference right away when you have babies too, because the babies will not be pastels.

LarM Sep 17, 2008 10:23 PM

Caden the Genetics and history are obvious points I agree on with you. Although When you say the Boa has that inside out look .I believe you are referring to a Coral Albino?
Yet I've seen mature Pastel Albino Boas(Pastel Dream Albino) with this negative type pattern look. I can post a pic that is not mine. Hopefully I will not perturb the obvious owner,LOL
On second thought I better make sure its OK I post his pics to illustrate my point. We'll see ?

dutch_pixie Sep 18, 2008 11:10 AM

well Caden, the difference is probably that I'm quite new to the whole morph boa thing and maybe you are a bit longer in the "bussiness" so to speak. I've aquired this male just through luck and without knowing pastel or coral. my knowledge is more into the royal python morph's, I'm still sorry you feel that everybody apparantly has to know the difference eventhough that someone being a first timer in morph land. for me I'm gonna end this discussion right here, coz I don't care to much for talking to someone that obviously feels that I am an idiot to not know the difference between one or the other

snakeparadise Sep 18, 2008 04:38 PM

but you still got one of our finest coral albino's
be proud on him and make him ready for breeding, and then we will put him back on mom if you like.
for the rest i will put one photo of the paradox overhere, because i only see one option for one photo.
hope you all like her.

best wishes
