has anyone had any problems feeding live to a red tail in their cage?? or is it better to feed outside in another container??

lol i already gave you my advice so I'll give you it again. Do what you think is best, i feed all my snakes in their cage. After I take them out I never have problems, before when I tried seperate feeding enclosures they would strike when i took them out. Its up to you, people have different experiences with these methods.

` In the past 40 years, I have personally seen hundreds of snakes scarred, and permanently injured, from live food. Also, I have personally seen dozens of corpses of snakes that were killed the same way. Where they were fed didn't make much difference. People would bring them into the exotic reptile stores I worked in and say, "What happened?" What was even more disgusting was the number of people who had it happen more than once. The most recent was a @$%?>@#$% person who bought a 2 foot Savannah Monitor to watch it kill large rats. The second time he fed it, it was torn to pieces by the rat.

Unless a snake absolutely refuses prekilled, there is no need to feed live, in or outside it's cage.

The only snakes I ever feed live to are newly born babies. All my snakes are fed thawed prey in their regular cages.

I've heard the arguments for feeding outside the snakes regular cage, but personally I haven't found any real benefit to it.
In fact, all my snakes HATE being handled after a meal. They want to eat, then slither into their hide. If I fed them outside their cages, I'd have to move them while they were bloated and move them when they least want to be moved. Double bad stress man.

So my vote is for feeding prekilled in the cage.
