I got a used Neo cage from a reptile dealer. I washed the cage out with soap/water & 5% bleach. The cage was rinshed MORE than adequate. I then put in a no pest strip for 2 days. On the 2nd day I removed the strip & let the cage air out for 3 days & re washed the cage.
The cage is heated by 3" flexiwatt heat tape, which I have hooked up into a dimmer switch.The hot end is 88, cool end 79. I have non printed newspaper as substrate.
I've put 2 different boas in seperatly & both constantly crawl up toward the top & constantly fall. The 2 boas I've had for a long time and both always remained on the floor of the cage.
The old cages they were in had more than enough floor room. They still always remained on the floor of the cage.
My question is, " Why won't they stay on the floor & constantly try to climb up and wedge themselves off the floor?"

where are you measuring the temps? Are you using a temp gun ? If you are measuring your temps away from the actual heat tape it may be way hotter then you think. If the ambient temp is around 88 there's a good chance the surface touching the heattape is actually way above 100 degrees. More info please

of the cage directly over top of where the tape is. The thermometer records day time highs and night time lows. The rest of the cage wheres there's no heat tape is 78- 80. Dave
Several of my boas and pythons that are kept in Vision cages can't seem to resist climbing along those little ledges. I use heat lamps, so the floor of my cages aren't hot and thus causing this behaviour. I found that most of my adult boas will use a shelf if placed in the cage (I use the vinyl coated wire shelves from WalMart) and all of them seem to enjoy climbing around the ledges and shelves at least some of the time. When climbing across the ledges, I invariably hear a 'thud' as a seven foot long snake does not fit on a 1 inch wide ledge. Adding shelves reduced the number of thuds but hasn't eliminated them. One other aside, whenever I've played musical cages with my boas or just cleaned them, they all have to completely investigate their 'new' digs.
