I am considering aqcuiring another snake (we have a ball python now) and am interested in a smaller boa. I have three little kids so I need a great temperment in a snake.

Which of these would make a better pet?

I think both really are equal as far as temperments. Although....I have heard more stories of Hoggs being tempermental. When I had my Hogg it really was mellow and sweet just like most BCI's.
Dumerils can be picky eaters at times. Mine was just fine. She ate like a champ.
Both are really fun animals. I say get both.

May be out of your intented choice, but probably a Colombian Red Tail.

I've got a pair of hogs and an adult male dumerils. I really
like all of them, but the Hogs are a little smaller and easier
to care for.

They don't usually get as thick, long or strong and even as
adults their heads are kind of small in comparison with other
boas and pythons. (In case you actually do get bit, it'll be a smaller bite)... I've read also that some can be hissy, but all
the ones I've seen have been very calm natured and docile.
They seem to really enjoy being handled. Gus at Rio Bravo has
some nice hogs. I got a really nice one last year at Daytona
from him.
