I need help so im leavin it up to you guys. Which should I get a Hogg Island Boa or a Brazilian Rainbow Boa. Thanks for your opinions.

What species have you kept, etc? Why do you want to start with a boa? What research have you done on any of the species you listed?

Like KLG said, it would be nice to know if you've maintained snakes before, and if so, what types in general - i.e. colubrids, pythons, etc.

Just a guess, but it sounds like you're looking for a small boa. Mexican boas and Central American boas are probably your best bet. I have seen 8 year-old Mexican boas that were about 4 1/2 feet and as thick as a big Florida king. That is pretty small. No Hog is that small. Males are also usually less girthy than females.

Hogs can get big despite their reputation as being dwarfs. Maybe not as big on average as many other South American boas, but good-sized and very girthy nontheless. A male is your best bet for staying smaller. Not overfeeding helps alot too.

BRBs require humidity. If kept correctly they thrive, but if you make mistakes they can go downhill fast. I know a guy with a Colombian rainbow boa. That snake is a nice size - about 4 ft or so - and is not as sensitive to humidity as his BRBs. It really is a nice pet snake. Don't know if they're all like that. I'm quite impressed actually, and I am no rainbow boa fan at all.

I have a pair of colombian rainbows ( both are over 4 yo) and the male is around 5' and rather girthy, and the female is just under 5' and a little less girthy. They are a great smaller sized snake and although they can be tempermental they make a better pet then colombians, and even hoggs (due to the smaller size)

Please calm down. I have done lengthy research on both. Ihave plenty of Herp experience(in fact im planning on being a herpetologist). I am capalable of taking care of either and im not that new. I am NOT an impulse buyer and research EVERYTHING i buy. I wouldnt go with whatever was more popular I just wanted to hear everyone 2 cents. I love them both and they both suit my requirements thats y i was asking. Wow u people like to gang up on people before you even know anything about them so please chill out.
