Does size really matter?

chiefmeat68 Sep 23, 2003 06:02 PM

I just got done checking my email if you couldn't tell. Don't you hate all the junk mail! But my question does have to do with size. Cage size that is. I have five 2003 boas all between 2 and 3 feet. I am planning on building them a rack style cage and I am curious to know the recommended dimensions of the trays for boas up to breeding age. If you have a breakdown of the cage size requirements for different size boas that would be great. Even more if anyone has suggestions on specific Rubbermaid, Sterilite or any other type of plasic tubs let me know. Thanks.

Josh

P.S. If anyone knows the cheapest place to get flex watt let me know.

well with racks you would be going smaller than recommended for the animal.
An easy old rule is... length with = total length of snake. So a cage 4 feet X 2 feet should be good for a 6 foot animal.
Pbviously depends on many other things.
Anyway it's not uncommon for breeders to keep from babies to breeder males (3-4ft) in blanketbox racks, like the ones from Boaphile Plastics.
Usually if you want the cage to serve until adulthood, and also for breeder females, you would need something larger.
I have 5-8 footers in 4'X 2' Boaphile Plastics 421D's, and some 8-9 footers in 6'X 3' Visions.
hope that helped?..

If you are looking for tubs for a rack, Sterilite has under bed storage tubs with wheels that measure 39 "x20 "x7". They would be perfect if the tubs go in the rack long ways. Walmart carries them. That should take the boas up to about 5' or so.
