Hi all,

I know nothing about boa's (im a ball python guy) and I decided to visit this forum to see what live birth looked like. Yuck. In a lot of your guys pictures it looks like theres a lot of afterbirth and entrails lying around the newspaper. What is all that?

Just basically what's left of the eggs after the babies leave them. The babies are basically just in eggs without shells inside the mothers. So you have yolk sacs, blood vessels... gooey stuff, ect. The entraily things are probably yolk sacs and umbilical cords. Boas don't technically have an afterbirth like mammals do, because the baby snakes aren't nourished through a placenta or anything like that.

Wow thats amazing...boa breeding must be a lot, for lack of a better word (and I hate to use his word because none of it is easy) easier than ball pythons because you don't need to look after the eggs and what not. Judging from the pics below though it looks like there can be a lot of complications

I think it is... I'm 1 for 1 on live bearer breeding and 0 for 2 on eggs. Well, so obviously I'm a breeding newbie! Of course, it's probably harder to control temps when your eggs are sitting inside a live animal as opposed to an incubator.
