Scaredy boa...won't eat big rats!

lilbitlizz Oct 01, 2003 09:18 AM

Has anyone else ever experienced a boa shying away from rats that are plenty within its eating size range? My BCI never started doing it until this summer, so I backed her down to two small rats, and she took to them like candy. Yesterday I tried one medium, and she huddled in the corner of her feeding box. Any explanation?

I ran into the same problem this year also. I have not been able to figure it out as of yet. Mine went from large rats all the way down to hopper rats. Plus all my rats are p/k, so it makes no sense to me. Good luck, let me know if your figure anything out.

My BCI did that for a while.. He can take a jumbo rat no problem (My large breeder male rats that I have) however not long ago he wouldn't take anything but small or mediums.... But that stopped again this past summer.. He took 2 of my bigger males over the summer and then after they were gone, several of my older XL females... fed every couple weeks.. 2 or 3.
