Solomon Island Ground Boa

JBSnake Oct 01, 2003 10:22 PM

Hey,
I'm thinking of possibly getting a Solomon Island Ground Boa in the near future. I was wondering whether anyone here keeps them, and if you do keep them please post a few pics. Also, what would a cage for a full grown Solomon Island Ground Boa be like(again, if you can please post pics!)? Thanks.

I have 1.2 Solomon "Isabel" Ground Boas. The females are many times larger than the males. I'll attempt to post some pics this weekend.

Hello---- At last a few more candoia fans post!!! I was wondering if you would be interested in looking into my site. I started a group page at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pacificislandboas. You can also be linked to it thru kingsnake.com. You can find it in the "mailing Lists" area. Feel free to join and we really need someone to add some pics to the photo gallery. If you check it out Please feel free to give me any comments. As soon as I am done helping host the Midwest Symposium in Omaha, I will finally have time to concentrate on the site Randy randysreps@cs.com

Thanks for the responses. I'm interested in both males and females. What is the rarest type of Solomon Island Ground Boa? Also, what do you think is the rarest pacific boa under 6 feet. I'm interested in snakes that are less common, which is part of the reason I am interested in the pacific boas. Plus the fact that they are a very different looking type of boa, with the almost venomous appearance.

The pacific island boa you are least likely to find available is the Halmahera Ground Boa (Candoia spp.)Jerry Conway states in his article that they were only discovered in 96. Most of the candoia you see for sale are W/C. There are a few breeders around but they are few and far between. They are awesome animals

I just picked up a Halmahera Ground Boa male (gold phase) about a week ago. This is a dwarf sub species of Candoia. Females max out at around 3 feet, males at 2 feet.
