I have rescued four ball pythons and one red tail boa all very mistreated or going to be put to sleep. Even thought snakes are allowed to be sold in newport news there is an old law somewhere that says you can not own them. now even though i have rehabilitated these snakes and the SPCA found them to be in excellent living conditions they are still taking me to court to make me get rid of my babies. If someone could help me either find out how to over turn this law or obtain a liscense to keep reptiles in newport news va i would ne very greatful just think there could be a law in your area you dont know about just imagine someone knocking on your door telling you your snakes will be taken from you because of some law please help thank you

perhaps PIJAC can help. Im not sure I have not done any research on them or what they do but I guess it stands for Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council www.pijac.org or you may need to get a good lawyer

they had to give ya some papers on it, subpeno, copy of the law, copy of the report as to why the came to your home, you have a right to these papers so get them and post them I would be curious to see the report as to why they came to your home and what this is all about? can you scan and paste them? ask them for an actual copy of the law, dont let them take anything till they give it to you, you have a right to have it. scan everything and post it here or email it to me

I would be very interested in this 'law' that they are hitting you with. If would not be too inconvient, please post a copy of it so we can see it. I live in Richmond, VA and things like this concern me greatly. I also have a huge problem with them deciding to put your animals to sleep even after they found that they are in excellent living conditions. That sounds like grounds to sue them with. At the very least, see if they will let you send your snakes to a reptile rescue for relocation as a more humane option. If my memory serves my correctly - there are any number of pet stores in the local area that sell snakes. Why are they picking on you? Please let us know more information. If there is a way to get a permit for owning a snake - you might want to contact the local government to see how to one.

The SPCA isn't going to put them down they want me to get rid of them. but after you save an animal or a few animals from being put down or being mistreated it tears at your heart to have someone tell you "yeah the living conditions look great but it dosen't matter because some old law says you can't have them" I dont think these people who dont have snakes know how attached you get to them they are just as good if not better companions than dogs or cats. people act like they are just something i have to look at like a room decoration that can be easily replaced or disgarded.In this situation I can not just lay down and let them take these animals from me or make me give them away I am convinced I am the best place for them to be. And just so everyone knows there are 5 ball pythons and one red tailed boa. only one i ever bought that was dallas my first snake everyone else was rescued from euthinasia of hell of some kind Wheneve i find this law in writing if i ever do i will post it i am not sure if it even exists i am requesting a writin copy of it from SPCA monday morning (tomm) thank you everyone Julie
