I am thinking about getting a dog. Obviously, I wouldn't have the snakes out with the dog in the room. Here is the part I worry about. I have about a dozen snakes housed in the living room. Will the scent of the dog throw the snakes off of feed? Is there anything else that you folks have gone through that I am not thinking about?

I have two dogs one is a Lab and the other one is a Mutt and I have not had any problems with my boas.
Will I did have one problem, I had a baby boa bite my Lab in the nose and leave about 3 teeth in his nose about 5 years ago.
Ever since then my Lab will not go near any of my snakes. LOL I still have the boa and this was the only time he bite anything other than a rat.

I have 3 dogs, a Lab, a Mutt, and a Rottie, and all three of my snakes are housed in the living room, with no ill effects. The dogs are a bit nosey about the snakes, and the snakes ignore them, though I don't let the dogs get near the snakes heads.

I just got a dog last month and have had no effect with my boas. They don't even respond to the dog, they just ignore her.

i have had my dog for two yrs. when i first got the dog i had a few snakes on the bottom levels of the cages take a strike or 2 but nothing to worry about, it scared the hello out of the dog! lol but not anymore, dont worry

Although I prefer to keep the door to the snake room closed when handling snakes, sometimes the dogs or cats are around. My dogs are mildly curious about the boas when I'm holding the snakes and the dogs are present. The snakes show no interest in the dogs whatsoever, or the cats. That might change if the snake was wild and free and a dog or cat came upon it, but so far, the boas act as if they are not aware of the other animals' presence at all. One word of caution: I will never relax my guard or grow complacent--one or the other pet may get an idea some day, and one never knows when that might happen. Goes for the handler, too.
