I got a new pastel boa a few days ago and I noticed that it has far larger than usual eyes that bulge out slightly. Has anyone else had this? Does it correct its self as the head grows larger? The snake has a great looking body, but the head looks kind of silly. Thanks

My dumerils had huge buldgy gold fish eyes till he got about 3 feet then his eyes kind of adjusted to his head. Looks like a nomal dumerils now.

In many snakes that are inbred certain attributes will eventually become disfigured. All animals on this earth are succeptable to what is termed 'inbred depression'. But there is a technique referred to as 'outbreeding' to control and/or eliminates this problem. Unfortunately many breeders out to make money will only breed same trait species to the other and continue pulling from the same genetic pool year after year as they attempt to profit from their initial investments and the market responds to it and compounds it with 'super' this and that.....with big eyes. Check out the history of your Boa.

Many of the hypo lines you will find have the same 'big eyed' look as they are based on B.c.imperator which tend to have smaller heads w/big eyes naturally. Maybe your pastel has imperator genes?

My 14 year old's ears looked silly up until like a year ago....always made him sit near tv for better reception kind...but they're looking much better now.

As long as they're healthy and happy....
