I have several snakes but don't have mites. Is there any specific way other than bringing in another snake that has mites to get mites?

You'll hear about them coming in from outside but I think that the vast majority of them come from other snakes. If a petstore is really infested they might hitch a ride on feeder mice too, although they won't feed on mammals. It only takes one pregnant female to cause a huge infestation in a matter of days.

I've actually been wondering the same thing. I like to let my boa crawl on the grass outside for exercise. I'd hate for her to get mites, and I inspect her cage closely every time I get her out for any signs of them, but on the other hand I'd hate to be an overprotective parent and not let her have her fun for fear of her getting them from the grass.

snakes ONLY get mites from another snake with mites, or they might hitch a ride in a styro box that had an infested snake in it, or a piece of wood that was in a cage containing an infested snake, and so forth. They won't get it from the grass outdoors.
