Hi, I just have a quick question for you all. I inquired about an adult female colombian for sale today. The add said she was 6' and 20 pounds. I asked how old she was, and was told that she was a March 2001 snake. Now to me, this seems huge for a boa under 3 yrs old. My biggest '01 female is right around 6 pounds. I am not trying to say anything bad about others or their animals, it's just that I worry about buying this snake and having it die early. Any opinions on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

not at all. size is revalant to a degree to the # of animals you have. i have a very productive male anery 6' 10yrs.old. ihave a 3yr.old female het albino 7ft. i have a 2yr male het albino 5ft. If this snake came from an individual that has one or two snakes that could be a plus.I grew my first up good. Then you can maintain and grow some for special things. I think the size is RIGHT !!

To me.......It sounds like the female was brought up a little fast. It could be that.......Or, genetically she is just going to be a big girl. When in doubt........Look at head size and over all musculature. If the boa is flabby or has poor muscle tone...Then odds are.......She was brought up too fast. (In my personal opinion) If not...She just might be a fast grower. Genetics are a funny thing. I have a couple of siblings and each one is growing differently then their sister.

6 feet is within the realm of possible. 20 lbs seems pretty darn heavy for a 6 foot boa, though I suppose not entirely outside the range of "normal".

20 pounds is big,20 pounds is fat.I agree with you,length good' weight bad.I have 3 guyana redtails that are in the 6 to 7 foot range and are 4 years old not starved and dont weigh that much.
