Hi,
Coming from a background of lizards and new to snakes, I was surprised that ZooMed Power Suns or 5.0 Fluorescents are not required for boa's. I have read that with the right ambient heat and basking spot(s), UVB reptile lights are not needed, as snakes get all they need from their food. I have my reptiles out in the natural sun in outdoor enclosures as much as possible and use various ZooMed UVB products during winter - so I found this to be a relief if I don't have to do this for my soon to come Boa's.
Is this true?

Yep. Since boas eat whole prey items with bones and organs, they get all their calcium and vitamins from them. Of course adult prey animals will be more nutritious in these respects since they have fully formed bones etc. However, if the rodents are frozen for an extended period, you may still want to use some kind of vitamin supplementation. UV exposure may help to bring out more color in snakes, but it isn't required for their health (most snakes are nocturnal anyway).
