i think im going to try pest strips.what kind should i use and were ca i buy them.

` Refer to the post at the link. It is from a Vet. I found the pest strips containing dichlorvos at Safeway. They are called "Hot Shots No Pest Strip." In my case, they didn't completely eliminate the mites in the first treatment. The second treatment got them all. I'll be treating again in a week, to get rid of the fresh hatches. I used them of yearling Boa constrictors. So far, four days later, no harm to snakes.

I recently had a mite problem... I used Nix lice removal to do the trick. It worked really well... I mixed one bottle to a gallon of water and sprayed the tank down. And then I put a small amount in a plastic butter tub of water and let my boa soak in it.

yeah nix is good, the shampoo or R%C lice removal is what i used, once every day for a week spray your cage entirely (and the snake all over but not too much on his face)and then after a week of 1 spray/day then do it once every week to make sure. dont soak your snake in water with nix because he might drink some and it could be harmful too him just spray him with it or lather it on him with your hands. that should do the trick. 1 bottle of nix (50ml) to a gallon of water, after your done spraying leave it for like an hour then wipe down the cage, also take out his water dish while spraying cause you dont want any in the water.

I made sure my boa quenched his thirst if he needed to before I proceeded with the soak. I had read about spraying the nix solution on the snake, but I felt uncomfortable doing so incase he were to breathe some of the solution mist... is that even possible? I wasn't sure, but I wanted to go about it safely, so I soaked him.

Please do not use Pest Strips! Some Boas are very sensitive and Neurological disorders result from the insecticides. Use BLACK KNIGHT & PROVENT A MITE products. The Barkers have a very good article on mites contained in their website. Don't play around with your snakes' health. I use both products for mites and prevention of mites and it WORKS. Follow the directions and fear not the health of your snake.
