I use newspaper,it's not very attractive, but,it's plentiful,(which is important if you have a good sized herd
)and,it's versitile.
I also use newspaper, but am switching over to the DCL cage liners. After seeing it used in other collections, I'm sold on the stuff. It's more asthetically pleasing than newspaper and seems to do a better job at absorbing waste and staying in place. The worst part of newspaper I think is how easily it gets moved to the side and you end up scraping urates off the cage at times. The cost of the cage liners are very affordable, especially if you have a small collection with the same size cages. One roll would last a long time. I broke down the price one time, and the cost when broke down into "price per bedding change" was VERY reasonable and worth it in my opinion. Plus with newspaper there's always that down time when you start reading the paper instead of putting it into the cages....just cuts into your time bad-LOL! Take care.

I think your the only one who has that problem Paul the rest of us read it prior to using it as bedding LOL
Seriously though I use news paper for larger snakes and Aspen for smaller ones in my rack units.

Well, ya see-lol, being "cheap" I don't buy the newspapers, I get them from friends, family, and snag pretty much the entire pile at the "FREE TAKE ONE" stands. You should see the looks you get when you walk out of a store and reach over and toss the entire pile of papers into your cart! If ever asked about it, I say I'm moving and need the papers to wrap up glasses and crap. I even have the kids working for me-LOL! They now know to grab papers when they see them! So, if it weren't for cleaning cages I'd have no idea what's going on in our world.
THIS VERSION for Danni-LOL! I am cheep so as I dont bye da paperz i jus takes dem from peeps i no dude.(INSIDE JOKE-Danni thinks I'm OLD!!!)
Take care!
I know what your saying dude I lie as well, I get them from walmart the old papers and get tired of explaining what they are for and being pestered with questions the people at walmart must thin I deal drugs or somethign as often as I claim to be moving LOL, I get the same for the dry Ice I get at walmart as well, so now I sell steaks as a weekend job, I got tired of explaining that yes snaes will eat dead, and yes there are other fruity people like myself out there that have rats in one side of the freezer and steaks and pizza in the other LOL

Maybe it is an advantage that I live in a city with several deli/grocery type little stores everywhere.
What I do is simply pass by these stores on recycling day, after work.
They set out clean, brand new, neatly organized, stacked and tied piles of newspaper that didn't sell.
I take the whole pile home and no one ever says a thing or gives me any looks!
Believe me, i used to pull them out of garbage pails, pick them up off the floors in the train/subway and carry them with me until I got home, or yes, even go to the banks indoor ATM's on weekdends, when employees are not around, and just take EVERYTHING they had! (racks and stacks of autotraders, real estate, neighborhood handouts, employment papers...anything!)
Wow - this strange hobby we all love.... what it does to us!!! hmm LOL

HI!I use the wee-wee pads they make for puppies and place a few paper towels on them then it absorbs the mess.It helps if the only poop half the cage cause then you only clean half.Plus you don't get dirty from the newspapers. They absorb pretty good.Just a suggestion.
I use old bed sheets in all my large cages & tanks and paper towels in the small tubs. The sheets are very absorbant, easily picked up at thrift stores or yardsales, attractive (for the most part), don't leave newsprint on your snake (making them look dingy) and very easy to clean up. I simply shake solids into the trash or commode, wipe out the cage with a weak bleach solution and put in fresh sheets. The soiled sheets get washed with soap and bleach in hot water in the washer. I have 23 snakes (6 in small tubs) and can clean all of the cages, including washing and refilling water bowls, in roughly three to three and a half hours.

The newspaper can make normals look "dingy", but it makes albinos look like PARADOX!!! LOL just kidding! Take care.
