I have been looking at breeders all over the country. Is it safe having a snake shipped? Are they healthy when they arrive? I don't like the thought of buying a snake, sight unseen.

It is very safe to have a snake shipped. It can be dropped off at 8pm and delivered to you before 10:30am the next morning. It is a good idea to let them warm up slowly, first to room temp and then to cage temp. don't feed them right away, just give them water and time to adjust. As for buying sight unseen, DON'T. If a breeder isn't going to take the time to give you a couple clear pictures of the snake your buying then pass them by. I haven't bred anything, but if you need any help I would be glad to give you my opinion on what breeders you should look at. Just let me know what kind of Boa your looking for. You should practicaly NEVER buy a snake unseen, ESPECIALLY from someone you don't know very well.

on another note, hundreds of breeders/dealers/companies out there ship thousands of snakes, lizards and other animals suuccesfully every day.

If you are working with a reputable breeder, there should be NO problem with shipping whatsoever .. of course other than a shipping carrier mistake or a natural disaster, which are more rare than common.

If you want to be extremely thorough, ask for their complete shipping/live arrival/health gaurantees...
If they don't have one, GO ELSEWHERE.

There are sites and forums out there that allow you to search, post and answer to inquiries about people and businesses.
I strongly recommend you use this tool before making a purchase.
