can i use a heating pad on half of the cage for my boa, or must i use a bulb for the cage also?if i must use a bulb, and if i do, do i put the bulb on the side of the heating pad or the cool side?thanks

If you use a bulb I would put it on the cooler side. You want the ambient heat to hit about 80 to 85 throughout the enclosure (regardless of the way you arrive at this temp) On the bulb side if it zeros' in right under the bulb at about 95 - plus or minus 5 degrees, you should have a good set up. I think heating pads can be tricky as they may read hotter on the bottom of the cage and being the snakes climb you won't know what the temp is unless you put another thermometer there. (this has a lot to do with the height of cage so you would have to gauge that) A nighttime ambient heat of 78 degrees is good, you won't want to go lower than that generally.
