I've had two pairs of Bolivian Amarali courting/breeding since late October, copulations observed by both males many times, especially after a warm up period which lasted from Dec.15-Jan.1, and has remained warm since this date. I believe I witnessed ovulation with certainty in one of the females (the silverback), which would have been Jan.23....this snake shed Feb.9, during this same time and ever since her shed any male I have doesn't go near her. Here is a crummy pic of her, unfortunately I can't get above her because of the shelf in her cage. She's eaten twice since Jan.1, her last meal was 2 weeks ago (1 medium rat). First pic is today
This pic is pre-breeding
To me she seems very swollen in her lower body....scales are beggining to separate, but I question my judgment as it is extremely biased.
Female #2...my red project. I never witnessed ovulation, but I could have easily miised it. She shed after her first meal coming into the warm-up, ~Jan.2....she then shed again Feb.3, and was only fed 1 time inbetween shed cycles. Here is a before pic.
here are two pics from today and yesterday
Everyone's opinions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Philip Niforatos
