To FR or anyone elso about breeding?...

timbo Jun 19, 2003 01:12 PM

I am wanting to get into breeding monitors and am finally able to do it. My question is, what would be a good species to start with? I do want to make a little profit eventually as that is the only way my wife can justify it (ha ha!). So obviously waters, niles, savs...etc are out the door. I know ackies are very popular. Anything basically that doesn't cost more to keep and feed than you can eventually get out of hatchlings. Finally what is the best way to go about finding a male and female breeder? Should I start with hatchlings myself. I do have a large male argus and blackthroat...I'd bet a cross between the two would be pretty interesting LOL!

Sorry for all the q's, but I've been looking forward to this for a long time and just thought I'd ask some experts on the topic.

Thanks,
Tim

Lets see, find something inexpensive, as you will make lots of mistakes. Find something where good captive hatched stock is availible. find something that is popular, so if your are lucky enough, to hatch excess babies, you can sell them. And lastly, find something that you like so much, that it draws your attention at all times. Good luck, F
