My boas locked up Saturday, pretty much the whole night. This was the first time I witnessed them actually copulating, the male has been following & courting for awhile. It is now early Thursday morning...they have been at it every night. So here are the questions: When can I expect them to be finished? I must admit, Walter has proven himself to be a worthy breeder. Should I remove the male to another enclosure when they are finished? How long should I leave him with her to make sure they are actually finished?
I usually breed geckos & frogs, so this has been very educational for me.

A male attempting to copulate does not mean a successful breeding. A male boa will attempt to breed with a newly introduced female just about anytime of year. This time of year is very late for actual breeding to take place but it is not unheard of either. Did you see the actual hemipenis inserted into the female or was it just intertwined tails? Either way if they are showing activity I would keep them together until they no longer show interest in each other. My boas will spend several months together during the winter. I introduce them in late Nov and I do not separate them until late Feb. I will attempt feedings if I find them on separate sides of the cage during that time frame, but after feeding and a good misting, them always seem to have a renewed interest in each other.

Thanks Hoppy! I introduced them in late March. I did get to witness the actual hemipenes entering the female on Tuesday. He has been interested in her since I put them together, she was a little less enthusastic. They seem to "get along" fine, neither are aggressive. They are a little unpredictable when handled but have shown no problem with having a cagemate. I guess now I get to just wait.
