I purchased a male & female Red Tail Columbian from the local pet shop a couple weeks back and have been trying to figure out the male. I have been breeding corns for a couple years now and love them but always wanted a pair of these guys.

I know without any genetic background from the breeder there is no way of telling (beside breeding trials) how to refer to him. His color is almost anery-ish but he has the brown in the tail saddles and pink on his face and lightly in his body, but is basically yellowish toned with black. Would he be considered just a very light colored normal Columbian??? I know where the pet store got them from and am going to endeavor to see what I can find out by emailing the place but was curious what the thought was on him. Besides, I think he is a beautiful animal and wanted to share outdoor shots of both of them. I know they are not the fancier color morphs but I very much like them.

She is just a regular colored normal but I am amazed at the amount of pink she has in her. It doesn't show up well in these but is neat and she even has a pink belly which is cute.

Gee, if I can get this excited over normal colored ones, I can imagine when I eventually get one of the fancier morphs...LOL.

One more of her in the grass. What a nice calm species these are. Wonderful to handle and excellent eaters of F/T. GREAT!! I am looking forward to watching them grow and change.

The male looks like a very unique, nice BCI...but see what else you can find out about him...I would be interested to hear what other info you can dig up about him.

No color morphs, but your right about the male, he is interesting looking with nice thin saddles. Both are pretty boas

Was it a petco by any chance? He looks exactly like this girl, down to the odd dark pattern, to the sparse tail saddles, who was purchased from a petco.. I know they also came from Gourmet Rodent..

Yes, he came from PetCo and yes from Gourmet Rodents. Yours does look like my guy. I am going to see if Gourmet Rodents can give me any info on him. I love the neat light colors mine and yours has.

LOL that is so wierd.. Bet we have littermates.. Where are you at? I live in the Seattle, Wa area.. Gourmet Rodent probably would have no clue even what parents produced these guys.. They produce over 2 million babies a year(of all their stock), and ship it out across the country.. Kinda neat though, that yours is a male, and mine is a female.
