timors are not predictable. ackies are more reliably "tame" and will be even more comfortable in a 40 gallon than a full grown timor would be.

The bite is strangely like having your finger slammed in a door, very different from a snake bite if that's what one is used to. Timmys are generally very shy. And fast. There are exceptions, especially among CB animals, but that's the rule.

Very shy, fast, flighty, bite draws blood more than youd expect. They hide alot (no exaggeration), you may see them once or so a week when they are set up decently. They are escape artists, yet if you appreciate them for what they are and not expect anything else they are beautiful animals. If you want something handleable get ackies or another species, timors are not appreciative of handling.

Not that you haven't heard this before but...

I have a Adult LTC Yellow Spot Timor. I've had her for a few months now and honestly, in my opinion, she is a "look but don't touch" kind of monitor. She really hates to be handled and prefers to watch from her hides and doesn't really interact with the rest of us!

So as long as you not looking for a "pet" then Timors are perfect! If you want something a little more "pet like" get a water or an ackie!

Just my thoughts! Don't get me wrong, I love my Timor I just have to realize that she is a wild animal and should be treated accordingly!

Oh and dido to what everybody else said before me, especially about the bites! Timors pack quite a punch for there size!

Hey now,
Waters are not for everybody granted, because of their size, but for the most part their temperments are far more amicable then Timors! All is relative of course!
So in effect I will withdraw my blanket recommendation and replace it with a more specific recommendation:
For the more experienced keeper prepared for a potentially massive reptile, then a water monitor could be for you! Same goes for Whitethroats and Blackthroats!
Better?
