Savannah Monitor Question

Piglet106 Jun 23, 2003 07:53 PM

How much food should a 80gram baby sav eat during the day, I know you aren't suppose to overfeed them....Currently ours is getting one fuzzie mouse a day with a few crickets....is this sufficient? Thanks in advance...

At 80 grams that's almost 3 ounces which is really little. Weight tells me nothing on how to answer your question. How long is your Sav? Do you know about how old? How long have you had it?
From what I know you should be feeding pinky or fuzzy mice, crickets, roaches, and mealworms. Once a day. But that is very sketchy information considering I know vaguely how large your monitor is.
Also what does the over all health look like? Is it skinny, fat, normal? What?
Kick down some info!!!!

He is about 11 1/2" long and I would say about normal size....We have had him approximatley 6 weeks....started off slow and now eating like crazy....we are feeding him one fuzzie per day right now with an occasional cricket or two.....I have attached a picture of him from about 2 weeks ago..... Let me know what ya think....Thanks..........

Then yes a fuzzy is perfect but lessen the amount and give like 10-15 crix a day, but don't feed more bugs if there are some left over in the cage. Give the Fuzzies about Twice a week.

So far so good on the small one.

Thank you very much for the advice....today he wouldn't eat a fuzzie, but I guess that is because we gave him one yesterday....I will do the fuzzies twice a week and crickets or silkworms all other days....Thanks again for the advice....Do you know anything about Timor's?????Have some questions about that one too LOL

Thanks in advance...

I know that they love to hide and stay relativly small. They are very flighty and really hate being handled. Even more than the "normal" monitor. They have a tendancy to be really bitey and high strung. They also love a humid environment.
What information were you looking for?

Just curious..we have a young timor and he doesn't seem to eat very well, just looking for some advice on how to get him to eat?

Thanks

That can be tough with those little guys because they spaz out really easily.
Try the bug diet and see if that helps. But if your standing there waiting for it to eat then that could be a problem. Get a fresh pinky mouse and set it in the cage just before you go to bed and see if the Timor is just be shy about everything. Some monitors are dusk, or nocternal feeders.
Also what are the temps in the cage? A cold monitor will eat a whole lot less than a hot one.
keep the info coming.
