New Gecko--what kind is she?

IguanaMama Jan 01, 2005 02:04 PM

Here's a picture of my new gecko. I think she may be hypo? Any info as to morph would be appreciated. Also, when you refer to the size, do you measure snout to vent or snout to tail-tip. She is about 8" snout to tip of tail. Would that mean she's a full-grown adult. What is the BEST food to feed her? I offered her mealworms, wax worms and crickets and she ate some of each. What size cricket is best? THANKS!

Yup, she's a hypo. Pretty too.

people use either measurement and then specify whether its SVL (snout-to-vent-length) or total body length.

she's probably full grown.

Crickets are best, followed closely by mealworms. Waxworms are dessert.

Mealworms, crickets, superworms, and roaches all make excellent staples. The most important thing with all these is to make sure you give them high quality food prior to offering them to your leo. Half the nutrition your leo will get will come from the stomach contents of its prey. Here's a great care sheet that covers all of this: http://www.goldengategeckos.com/care.html

I agree that your leo looks like a lovely hypo. At 8" she's probably full grown or close to it.
