NYC and Cockroaches!

IguanaMama Jan 02, 2005 08:55 PM

OH NO! I checked on my little buddy in the middle of the night and there were a couple of cockroaches in her enclosure. I have an exterminator here once a month and have those combat disks all around so it is very likely that the roaches have poison in them. I live over the subway, and the building is infested. They must have been attracted to the bowl of worms as I put cricket feed in with them to gut-load. First thing I did was put glue traps around so no more will get in. If she ate any, will she get sick? Is there anything I can do incase she did eat any? I figure this is a problem unique to New Yorkers.

Also, is there a problem with petco geckos that I should be aware of? I'll be going to the retile expo in a couple of weeks to get her a couple of friends, but do you think I need to get her to the vet for a preventative visit. Are their geckos really more likely to carry pinworms?

Thanks for your help.

Are you 100% positive she ate the roaches?, to be sure, you could probably wait till she poops, wait for it to dry, break it up and look for signs, usually the wings and head dont digest, so look for those

if you find either i think i trip to the vet is possible best you can do

to be honest i really doubt she did, if she ate the and they had the poison in them i think you would have started to see the effects by now, if you saw the roaches in there, then you most likely found them befor your leo did

Every petco is different. The health of the reptiles depends almost completely on the Animal Care Specialist who works there. I've seen the whole range of employees, from incompetent/surly/indifferent to expert/caring/helpful. and conditions from horrifying to so well-designed and immaculate I took notes for my own enclosures. this is over a period of several years in the same store, mind you.

like the other post it variies depending on the petco i bought 11 geckos from petco i have only had problems with 2 of them the rest are fat and healty. the only problem i found is buying young geckos hard to tell the sex so i have a few males just something to think about.
